This final pendant portrays the steps we take every day, they go up and down, they have cracks, but the main point is to just keep moving, and hopefully we can find a little light along the way.

Fourth in a series of five pendants inspired by running 5km every day for one year.

This pendant is about mental health and how it’s so easy to be overcome with darkness. It symbolises how even cracks in our lives can let some light in.

In February of 2020, just before the craziness of the pandemic really hit, Doireann began a challenge and a journey to run 5km every day for one year. This first piece is about escaping and features an etched maze with 18ct gold dots showing the path. Dorieann started running even before the first lock-down, but it felt like fortuitous timing because running every day gave me a means of escape and a reason to leave the house every day in the midst of a global pandemic.

The third pendant in this collection of work inspired from running 5km every day for one year is one we particularly love – it’s a symbol of personal space and is quite literally an image of a black hole in space etched onto silver. In the centre of the black hole is a domed disc of 18ct gold. This piece of gold represents our personal space.

Having a challenge that centred around doing something every day, although tiring, was also really great – it created personal space, something we all need, yet is sometimes so hard to find. This challenge was the excuse to create it, to carve out that bit of time every day, no excuses, no rain checks.
